The purpose in the song and the address by Robert F. Kennedy is to send a message to the people that are listening. The Robert F. Kennedy address to the people was about keeping Martin Luther King Jr's methods alive and nobody should forget about since he was murdered. He is also saying that the country should stay as one and not as black vs. whites. The song " The People" by Common is a very interesting song to me because when he is rapping to the people he is describing all kinds of different people. He is also describing what kind of neighborhood or area he grew up in and it must’ve been very tough for him. The purpose of the speech from Coach Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino) was about motivation and courage for his team. He had to get his players inspired because they were losing at half time. He doesn’t want the team just to give up. He thinks that they can do it if they have someone to inspire them.

A. The audience in Robert F. Kennedy’s Speech was the whole United States. They were told that they shouldn’t go back to their old ways and start hating people cause of color or how they look. They should spread his wise words and never forget it. In Coach D’ Amato’s speech his team is the audience and what they need is motivation and inspiration. They look like they just gave up hope when they came into the locker rooms in the video. In Common’s rap “The People” he is rapping it to his fans. He sends a message to them on what kind of area he grew up in and what he had to go through, but it wasn’t that bad.

T. The tone in each speech and song is different. The tone in Robert F. Kennedy’s sounds very sad when he talks about the murder of Martin Luther King Jr., but throughout the middle the tone made it sound like we the people have confidence and guidance with his words. In Coach D’Amato’s speech his tone is a serious and perseverance. He doesn’t want to his team to give up. He wouldn’t be smiling and be telling him this. Then it sounds like the coach doesn’t care. So he says it in a serious tone. Common’s song “The people” has a tone like toughness. He is trying to say it fast and roughly.

T. The theme in each speech is different. The address to Martin Luther King Jr. on his death was about never giving up and don’t forget about something that was taught to you. The song “The People” by Common was about people grow up in some horrible areas, but they can grow out of it and still have a better life. Coach D’Amato’s speech was on don’t lose hope and you can get through any situation that you are.

R. Repetition, its says “inch by inch play by play”. Analogy, because the coach is comparing life to football. Direct Address he is talking to the football team.
